Get clear, confident and compliant on EDI data in social housing
“We’re told by the housing regulator that we have to collect this data… but what are we legally allowed to ask, and how do we explain it to residents?”
Sound familiar?
The new Consumer Standards (2.1.1 of the Transparency, Influence & Accountability Standard) require landlords to use relevant data to:
-
Understand the diverse needs of tenants
-
Assess whether services deliver fair and equitable outcomes
But across the sector we’re seeing:
❗ EDI Surveys hurried out without a clear plan
❗ Sensitive questions asked awkwardly and unlawfully
❗ Damaged trust and wasted resources
❗ No meaningful insight
The pressure is real – and the messaging is confusing. But more data isn’t the answer. What you need is clarity.
This Toolkit brings together years of experience, late-night thinking, and countless hours of designing frameworks that really work in practice. Other consultancies might want to charge hundreds, even thousands, for this amount of insight. But we want every landlord, no matter their budget, to have access to this guidance. That’s why it’s priced at just £150, and right now available for only £75 including VAT.
The EDI Data Toolkit gives you the confidence, compliance and practical steps to collect and use EDI data lawfully and meaningfully.
While the data protection legislation covers the use of EDI (equality/equity, diversity & inclusion) data, and it does not prevent this data being collected, it does require specific rules are followed, and there are several restrictions.
Inside the Toolkit you’ll find information about the purposes for collecting EDI data, and how to evaluate the different purposes against the backdrop of new housing regulations, considering purpose and risks, to help make informed decisions that comply with data protection law.
The EDI Data Toolkit contains:
- EDI Data Quick Start Guide
- EDI Data Board/Exec paper in Word doc.
- EDI Data Board/Exec paper in pdf
- **New** EDI Data Presentation on Strategy
- EDI Data Presentation on Processing
- **New** EDI Data Strategy TEMPLATE
- **New** Diagram highlighting Protected Characteristics Vs Special Categories
- **New** Lawful Bases Mindmap
- EDI Data Quiz, with certificate
Developed by data protection consultant and author, Clare Paterson, known for her clear & practical approach and help, this mini toolkit is designed to inform conversations about the collection and use of EDI data in the social housing sector, which can be a challenging subject.
Expert guidance made affordable, just £150 £75 (inc VAT).
A personal note from Clare
“When I worked in social housing, I used to produce pie charts and bar graphs of ethnicity and religion without ever thinking about the people behind the numbers. Data was just data.
Later, working freelance and in a law firm, I began meeting more people with diverse life experiences — and I started to hear first-hand about discrimination, both intentional and unintentional. That’s when I realised the real potential for harm.
A data scientist once admitted to me:
“I should have, but I’ve never considered how people feel when they’re being asked the questions – the answers just feature as a data point in my work.”
That used to be me too. But over time I’ve come to understand just how daunting it can be to hand over private information to an organisation that has power over you — one you may not fully trust.
That’s why I created the EDI Data Toolkit; to help landlords collect and use data in a way that is not only lawful, but also fair, respectful, and meaningful for the people we serve.”
